SEND Network
This network meets once a term to support and share thinking and innovation in SEND leadership and practice.
It is facilitated by Malcom Reeve, National Leader of Education, National College for teaching and Leadership.
These are friendly, mutually supportive meetings in which SENCOs are supported to discuss and share solutions on all matters SEND and inclusion.
The forum has supported the development of a set of tools for effective leadership;
- an identification template which provides a strategic overview of SEND identification in the school and co spores this with current national and Islington data
- a one page summary of SEND continuing information on identification, absence, exclusions, suspensions and outcomes at national and school level.
- other sections focus on high quality adaptive teaching, leadership the strengths and areas for development of SEND in the school. This provides a useful summary for governors.
In 2025 tools have focussed on the progress of learners with more complex SEND needs and those not meeting age-related expectations and how this can be recorded and reported. All tools have now been revised to reflect the inclusion focus in the Ofsted inspection framework introduced in November 2025 and the forum is carrying forward its thinking, practice and the development of tools for the effective leadership of inclusion in schools.

Throughout there has been a passionate commitment across the network to ensuring that all children in all the schools have the best possible start and an impactful emphasis on collaboration, sharing learning and celebrating the many successes.

‘It is pleasure to support the work of the Maamulaha SENCO forum and to work with both Headteachers and SENCOs on developing practice and improving outcomes for learners with SEND and additional needs. The work of the forum is a strong example of partnership working and sharing in a mutually supportive and professional network which has had significant impact.’
